The soccer team, Santos, won the IMS Soccer Tournament on October 10th at the IMS field. The IMS Soccer Tournament takes place in IMS every year.
Every team in this tournament has five players. The players in Santos were Kirubanath Sivakumar, Kush Patel, Jay Chauhan, Hansel Tobias, and Sarvesh.
They played the finals for 20 minutes. In those 20 minutes, both teams came close many times to score but they couldn’t score. The score was zero to zero, so the game went to a penalty shoot-out.
This penalty shoot-out was very close. Both of the teams were missing some shots and scoring some shots. With one final penalty for Santos, Chauhan stepped up and scored for Santos to win the tournament.
In this tournament, there are 8 teams each. On the field, at a time you can only have 4 people playing per team because there are no goalkeepers. In the finals, all five people in a team are playing because you can have a goalkeeper for the medium-sized net.
Most of the viewers, watching thought that the team that would win would be the Vizinators, but they were left in shock after Santos won. Even some players in Santos thought that the Vizinators would win.
“I thought the Vizinators were about to win, however, this all turned upside down when it came to penalty kicks,” Sivakumar said.
The prize that the winning players got was $10 dollars to Dairy Maid. The Vizinators were very sad that they didn’t win. Abhay Shinde who was on the Vizinators thought that they had someplace to improve.
“I think we could have done better on the penalty kicks,” Shinde said.
This year’s IMS Soccer Tournament was full of surprises and next year’s tournament might be full of even more surprises.
