Mrs. Senatore is one of the bowling team coaches. She discussed what it is like to teach the bowling team, and why she enjoys it. She takes middle school kids interested in the team and has them try out.
Panther Press: Good morning Mrs. Senatore.
Mrs. Senator: Good morning to you two as well.
Press: Why do you help teach bowling?
Mrs. Senator: Well, I have always bowled and I just enjoy it, so I just lend a helping hand, and teach people how to bowl correctly.
Press :Yes of course you have to! What made you like bowling?
Mrs. Senator: Well, I have been bowling since elementary school in a league with my friends, and I was on the high school bowling team.
Press: Do you watch bowling on TV?
Mrs. Senatore: Only when my husband has it on, so not really but he we watch it some times.
Press: Do you find friends by bowling?
Mrs. Senatore: Well, I did back then but not anymore. I used to go bowling with friends, but then I had my daughter and then I stopped going as often. But I did teach her so.
Press: That’s very nice! It’s really cool that you’re passing it down.
Press: Yes it is, moving on, what is the technique or goal that you want to reach for beginners?
Mrs. Senator: Well, obviously, you have to learn the proper technique, but we want them to also enjoy it!
Press : So is there any technique for certain things that you do in bowling?
Mrs. Senator: You need to know which fingers need to be put in the bowling ball. Sometimes kids don’t know what fingers to put in the ball, and the second thing is aiming. You have to be coachable, and take advice.
Press: Can you just join, or do you need to have experience?
Mrs. Senatore: You need to be able to throw the ball, and be coachable.
Press : And what grades are it open to?
Mrs. Senatore: It is open for 7th and 8th grade, so you can start practicing now!
Press : How do you coach your students on the team?
Mrs. Senatore: Well, I don’t really yell, but you just have to listen.
Press : When you win, how do you celebrate?
Mrs. Senatore: I usually give chocolate to everybody, always before, so they get motivated. And if we win 1st place, we would get pizza parties.
Press: Is the chocolate homemade or store bought?
Mrs Senatore: I make them homemade.
Press. : Do you know what the highest score ever was?
Mrs. Senatore: I don’t remember
Press: Do you remember which team won first for IMS, the girls or the boys?
Mrs. Senatore: The girls won first.
Press: Have the boys ever won?
Mrs. Senatore: No, they have never won, gotten close but never won. They made the playoffs though.
Press: Do you have supporters that help with money?
Mrs. Senatore: No, not really, but it is considered a sport, so we get funds.
Press: Have you ever had big donations?
Mrs Senatore: No, other than some moms would make cupcakes.
Press: Do you have a lot of supporters?
Mrs. Senatore: No, actually I need more parents to come, there aren’t a lot that show up.
Mrs Senatore: Is that good, any more questions?
Press : No, thank you for your time and have a nice day!
Mrs Senatore: Good Luck writing, have a good day!
