Michael Ricci is an ELA teacher at Iselin Middle School. He is a funny, kind teacher who cares for his students and teaches well.
Leading up to Ricci’s job as a teacher, Ricci wanted to be an accountant, but later, he decided to be a teacher.
“I thought it would be fun, reading and teaching. I was always helping with other work and homework so it came easy,” Ricci said. He teaches 4 periods of kids and started at IMS in 2022.
IMS usually has many events, including Spirit Week, Panther Pride Day, and even many field trips. Recently, the school held a No-Tech January event, which Ricci enjoyed.
“I liked No Tech January, it got kids to work together and got rid of distractions,” Ricci said.
During No Tech January, to help the kids that Ricci teaches, he made them go into separate groups from their friends so they didn’t get distracted. He used paper and put questions on it, like a worksheet, so the kids didn’t have to use tech, but they were working.
Ricci has a lot of statements for the school. He likes to teach at the school and he feels that some students are hardworking, while some need to work a bit harder.
“I like to teach at IMS. It’s great probably the best place I could be,” Ricci said. “The students are mostly hardworking and dedicated to working well, but some need to realize they need to work harder, and that’s okay.”
Ricci had a lot to say about the school. First, he stated that everyone is respectful of everyone else’s time. He also noted that teachers and counselors support students and teachers in their efforts to improve.
When a student needs help or isn’t helping him, Mr. Ricci stays calm. If a student is not listening, he gives a warning and lets them off. Also, when you need help, Ricci doesn’t hesitate. If you ask him a question, he will walk over and help you, or you could go to him.
Along with teaching, Ricci’s family includes his wife, three kids, two cats, and one dog. Some of his hobbies are playing guitar, reading, and hanging out with family and friends.
