Mr. McGarry is inspired to be a gym teacher because of his childhood. He grew up interested in and loving sports.
“I played a lot of baseball in middle and elementary school, then in high school, I played basketball and football and baseball my last year,” McGarry said.
If McGarry had the option to play professional sports instead of a gym teacher, he would! He always wanted to be an MLB player.
“If I had the choice, I would be a shortstop for the NY Mets. A shortstop on the NY Mets was my dream,” McGarry said.
McGarry’s favorite memory as a gym teacher in IMS is watching the students grow throughout the years and building relationships with the students. He feels he can joke around with more students than others because of their relationship and good chats with them.
McGarry’s worst experience in IMS as a gym teacher was during an assembly. He and his coworker, Mrs. Malleck had to dance in front of the students.
If McGarry wasn’t a gym teacher or a professional athlete, he would want his job to be anything where he doesn’t have to wear a shirt and tie. The last thing he would want to do is go to an office and wear a shirt and tie, working 9-5.
McGarry loves his coworkers at IMS. He and Malleck knew each other growing up in middle school and he and Mr. Herbeck grew a wonderful relationship at IMS working together. Ms. Weiser grew up in the same area, and Ms. Evans is a great person to work with, all while Mr. Acquisto is really helpful.
McGarry loves the environment at IMS. He hears a lot of good stuff from people inside and outside of the building and how Iselin Middle School is the best school in the whole district.
