The Super Bowl, a loved event throughout all of America has several nostalgic commercials. This year the advertisements cost close to 8 million dollars for 30 seconds of screen time with the ads playing on February 9th. This raises the question: Why are these advertisements so expensive? One reason is that it’s the time of year when the public cares about advertisements and pays attention to them.
Let’s review both the best and the worst advertisements that were broadcasted live on your television.
A notable advertisement is the Dunkin Donuts “DunKings” commercial that lasted 60 seconds but has an extended movie version that spans 7 minutes. This commercial starred Ben and Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong at the “Java Jam Battle of the Coffee Brand Bands.” In the sequel the new DunKings had an epic showdown against the Barista Buds.
“I watch the Superbowl mostly for the commercials,” Iselin Middle School student Nirali Patel stated. “It’s when companies care the most about promoting their products so they put special care into their advertisements.”
Patel expressed that her favorite commercial was the Lay’s commercial which made their first appearance since 2022. “I like how it tells a cute, heartwarming story of a hardworking little girl who grows a potato plant and how she overcomes hardships along the way,” Patel said.
However, although Patel commented that most commercials were enjoyable to watch she expressed distaste for Tubi’s Cowboy ad that included a kid who was born with a cowboy head.
”When I saw the fleshy cowboy head on television it was so weird. I actually had to look away, It was so unsettling,” Patel mentioned,
The Super Bowl was loaded with celebrities this year.
“My favorite celebrity who appeared in a Super Bowl ad was Doja Cat who featured in a Taco Bell commercial with LeBron James,” Patel said.
Alya Amer felt neutral about the commercials. She felt this way about the commercials because she didn’t feel any way about them. However, Amer’s favorite Super bowl commercial was the Doritos commercial where the aliens tried abducting the bag of Doritos. The creativity in the Doritos commercial stood out to her.
She disliked the Dunkin Donuts commercial and Amer found it extremely unfunny. No particular celebrities stood out to her and shocked her. Amer was excited to see Doritos advertised since she likes Doritos. Her favorite brand advertising was the Doritos brand. She did not care about the use of A.I in the commercials.
The Super Bowl is a great deal for American companies since it shines a spotlight on commercials which allow companies to gain more consumers. Consumers also get to see the creativity of brands through advertisements. Over the years, we can hope that the quality of these ads will increase and will be even more popular.
