Mr. Cahill is a funny and caring teacher who likes to make his students laugh. He speaks Chinese and English and has a passion for music and playing instruments. He chose to teach at IMS because it helps him connect with students who also go to JFK. Mr. Cahill thinks it would be fun to teach ESL, and he really admires Mrs. Cilento as a great leader. He loves being a teacher because he gets health benefits and enough free time to enjoy his hobbies. The best part of his job is bringing happiness to his students. He reminds everyone to keep the cafeteria clean and not throw food around.
Panther Press: How has your day been today?
Mr.Cahill: Today has been a good day. We had heroes and cool kids come over, so I had some time to take a break, and overall, everything has been great.
Panther Press: Why did you want to become a teacher?
Mr.Cahill: I wanted to have a lot of free time in the beginning because I loved music, which I was interested in, and I also enjoyed playing different types of instruments.
Panther Press: Why IMS, and not any other school?
Mr.Cahill: I used to work at AMS, but AMS doesn’t have the students going to JFK. So, I actually split my year between JFK in the fall and IMS in the spring.
Panther Press: What languages can you fluently speak?
Mr.Cahill: I can speak Chinese and English fluently, and I know a little bit of Spanish.
Panther Press: If you had to teach any other subject, what would it be?
Mr.Cahill: I would like to teach ESL kids because I think it would be very fun. Outside of that, I would love to teach history or math.
Panther Press: How do you think your students would describe you in a few words?
Mr.Cahill: They would describe me as funny; they think I have funny jokes, and overall, I like to make people laugh.
Panther Press: Who do you look up to as a teacher?
Mr.Cahill: I look up to Mrs. Cilento.
Panther Press: Do you think there are any benefits to being a teacher?
Mr.Cahill: There are lots of benefits, including health benefits. The salary might not be high, but teachers don’t work as much as other professionals.
Panther Press: What is your favorite part about being a teacher?
My favorite part is making people laugh and bringing them happiness.
Panther Press: How do you find the kids you teach?
Mr.Cahill: They are hard to teach, noisy, or do they listen to you?
Panther Press: Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Mr.Cahill: Please stop throwing food in the café and don’t throw your pencils and pens
