Kayla Polanco is a student at Iselin Middle School. She is in 6th grade. She is a very kind and smart person. We are interviewing her to know more about her.
Panther Press: How old are you and when is your birthday?
Kayla: I am 12 years old and I was born on February 2, 2025.
Panther Press: What countries are you from?
Kayla: I am mostly Puerto Rican and Dominican, but I have some African and European roots.
Panther Press: What holidays do you celebrate?
Kayla: I celebrate Christmas, Easter, New Years, and Thanksgiving.
Panther Press: What are some traditions you have in your family?
Kayla: Every Christmas Eve, my family gathers together and we stay up until 1 a.m to open our
Presents.
Panther Press: How did you come to the U.S.A?
Kayla: My father came to this country from the Dominican Republic, and my great-grandfather from my mom’s side came from Puerto Rico.
Panther Press: What are some of your favorite cultural foods?
Kayla: I enjoy eating mofongo, chicken quarter blue, and flan.
Panther Press: Do you have any special family heirlooms?
Kayla: I have a pair of gold earrings passed down from the women in my family.
Panther Press: What hobbies do you have?
Kayla: I like dancing, drawing, baking, swimming, and singing.
Panther Press: What clubs do you participate in?
Kayla: I am in Dance Company, Art Club, Ambassador Club, and Gardening Club.
