School options for students differ. It may be affordability, location, and other factors. But is there a major difference between private and public schools?
Both teachers have the same opinion about their schools, and reasons why they like their own.
Vizian believes public schools are better because “both of my sons went to public schools.”
Likewise, Leone believes she “would like my kids to go to a public school so that they can learn the importance of diversity and social skills.”
According to an article, public schools can sometimes be better because of their social diversity.
“They provide an atmosphere for learning and have extracurriculars and sports,” Vizian said.
Despite attending a private high school, he still believes that public schools are better.
“The price difference between public school and private school is not worth it,” Leone said.
Prices are also one of the sole reasons that parents may drift towards public schools.
“Sure, it’s worth it sometimes, but some parents may not like the curriculum changes,” Vizian stated.
Even curriculum is a subject to be discussed. Private schools may differ in curriculum and standards than public schools.
Leone said, “I think that private schools may have lower standards, and if you’re attending something like a catholic school, it may be a different curriculum altogether.”
Parents also see fault in adjusting. If a student who all his life attended public schools, attending a private school may be hard to adjust to.
Vizian stated, “I think the adjusting is what’s hard, and was even hard for me because its a whole new environment to get used to.”
All in all, public schools and private schools have their differences, and though people have their opinions, it is the parent’s decision in the end.
