The Block Party is a social activity for students at Iselin Middle School.
The Block Party was from fifth to sixth period classes. Students needed to fill out a permission slip with their parents or guardian’s permission and bring 10 dollars to enter.
Hundreds of kids from Iselin Middle School came to attend, as it is more like two hours of free time where students could use their phone and talk to their friends.
But, why do we have the Block Party each year, and why does it always happen at the beginning of the year?
“To make it more fun,” Mrs. Cilento stated. “The beginning of school is boring isn’t it?”
The Block Party is hosted in September or October each year. As those are the months when the weather is not too hot, and not too cold and is perfect to hang out outside with friends.
Mrs. Cilento said, “We change the spot it’s at each year. It depends on the weather.”
The block party has been around since before Mrs. Cilento was the principal.
“An old teacher that is no longer here,”Mrs. Cilento said, “actually started the block party, probably like 20 years ago.”
The block party was definitely a good idea for the school. It is very fun for students and teachers alike.
Two students from IMS shared their opinions about the block party.
“It was really fun. I got to play football with my friends,” said seventh grade student, Dante Hudson.
“So much fun, I played football with Dante and I ate a lot of Takis,” seventh grade student Hussein Ashish said.
