Griffin Schmidt is a 7th-grade history teacher at Iselin Middle School (IMS). He teaches World History to his students throughout the full year. He used to teach 6th grade.
In his school, his favorite subject was history, and his mother was a history teacher.
Another thing was that his favorite teacher in high school was his history teacher, so when he had the chance, he decided to become a history teacher.
When he teaches, it’s like students would be there in that exact place he describes.
Schmidt has been teaching for five years. All those years, he showed students different ways of feeling the subject instead of shoving facts in their face.
He took time and helped understand what happened and why history was important.
Besides so many good factors about him, he also had some expectations for his students.
“Try to approach differently from how others taught and just take facts, remember, and teach.
It’s like applying it; if you teach others differently, they will retaliate, as happened with America and Brits,” Schmidt said.
He uses methods to ensure we pay attention and also to help us understand the lesson if we don’t.
His main purpose of teaching history was to make students learn about the mistakes made by people in the past and prevent them from happening in the future.
He agrees that History should be taught at all levels, because the younger kids find it interesting sometimes, while at higher grades, it gets more interesting.
He thinks that if you take time with the students, they will really learn the hardships that people faced in the past.
The way he taught made us feel that we were really there in that place and time.
The way he would teach still amazes people. Students hope that he continues teaching other generations like he currently teaches.
He is a teacher that no one will ever forget.
Concerning the future of history, his description was, “It depends on how we know the world is changing a lot now. Really hope he takes time and understands how we learn from others.”
Something else he does is to make sure that every student learns from asking peers rather than just asking him.
Sometimes he tries a different way to show his students the question if they don’t know the answer, and he tries to give us all the best education.
Mr. Schmidt enjoys teaching History at IMS and is very excited to welcome new students.
