The block party, an event in Iselin MIddle School has a variety of activities like soccer, basketball, music and other things like color run stations.
The block party’s time was fifth and sixth period. There were also snacks and drinks if students were hungry and thirsty. Students spent time with their friends and enjoyed fun activities, dance, play, and more.
The Block Party happened the first month of school, on September 26. The block party happens yearly.
Mrs. Baldesweiler is one of the teachers that organize the block party.
“We usually start (preparing) as soon as we come back to school. We will then start to set up permission slips and start to think of activities we would want to have. The day of the event starts an hour or two before the students start to come out,” Baldesweiler said.
The amount of money they spend can be pricey because to get everything set up and paid can be expensive most of the time.
“We usually wait for students to pay and we’ll start to use the student money to use it and buy supplies and things we’ll need (for the block party),” Baldesweiler said.
It takes several teachers to help run the block party.
“It’s usually myself and Mrs. Grochocki and we have 10 other staff members each period to help,” Baldesweiler said.
So why is there a block party?
“We wanted a way to raise money for the school but to have something that the students would be excited to have something to do and get out of class,” Baldesweiler said.
There are various activities at the block party.
“We have two color runs stations, basketball, football, soccer, and a DJ,” she said. “It is usually 2 hours long during periods 5 and 6.”
In judging the success of the block party, it is interesting to know how many students participated.
“This year we had a lot, we had over 400 students in the past, maybe a little less,” Baldesweiler said.
That’s a shocking amount of kids, but how difficult is it to manage the block party with so many students?
Mrs Baldesweiler said, “It’s difficult because we’re outside so students are running all over the place, that is why we have so many faculty come out and help.”
