Ms. Leone is the Art teacher at IMS. She loves teaching different types of art to her students. She started teaching art two years ago, but she had a passion for art long before that.
Leone loves teaching students.
“It has its ups and downs, but mostly ups,” Leone said.
The biggest reason why she wanted to teach was to make an impact on her students. She also loves interacting with each student. She wants to know their opinions and questions that they have about art.
If Leone wasn’t an art teacher she would choose to be a drummer in a punk band. She also stated that she would like to be an ocean engineer because she was inspired by her sister.
Leone is in charge of the art club that is held after school. They paint these plaques in the hallway, the ones that you see throughout the hallway, and some of them are painted. Well, the people in the art club did that.
The paintings are based on the school, their interests, or personality. This year Ms. Cilento the principal wanted the students to make a bigger painting on the walls and they are going to paint a red ribbon this week.
There are usually no competitions in the art club however they did one competition once and they watched a movie. Then they had to make a painting based on the movie’s painting style. The most creative won a movie gift card.
Leone likes all different types of art, but her favorite is impressionism. She loves that type of art because of a specific artist, Monet.
“It was a whole new movement where they used brighter colors and started painting outside wanting to capture fleeting moments of time.” Leone said, “ Their techniques were a lot different. I love being outside and impressionism over time just became my favorite type of art.”
“ Art can be beneficial in other areas of your life,” says Ms. Leone.
Ms. Leone uses art as a way to help her in real-life situations. She uses art to be patient. For example, she has more patience when she is stuck in traffic and she uses that to stay calm. You can also think outside the box and be more creative because if you are in a challenging situation you can kind of think differently and figure out a solution.
Ms. Leone started loving art when she was little and wanted to design her room and then that led to the love that she has for art now.
