Kyle McGarry is a gym teacher and coaches of many sports. One of the sports he coaches is baseball. The season starts September 5, 2024 and ends October 17, 2024 and there are a total of 8 baseball games this season. Iselin Middle School goes against Fords, Colonia, Woodbridge, and Avenel Middle Schools.
McGarry loves to play and especially coach the school’s baseball team. He always looks forward to coaching the team here at IMS and he is proud to do it every season.
“Baseball is the sport I grew up playing and all I did was play baseball,” McGarry said.
Although the season is over, McGarry is sad to report that they did not win any games.
“From the first to last game, we showed a ton of improvement,” he said.
Since the baseball team did not win any games this season, he explained why and what they could’ve done differently to win. McGarry says that since most of the players on the team are new and going against the different schools are their first time playing competitively, they still need to learn more and that this was a learning curve for them. Defense and hitting are the two main reasons they could’ve changed to improve.
This year is personally, McGarry’s favorite because of the player’s positive attitude. Having a positive attitude, mindset, and having fun is the most important thing.
“Losing the game did not affect everybody’s spirit and everybody really liked being around each other,” Mr.McGarry.
McGarry explained why they weren’t even close to winning any games against schools this year. He explained that that is okay because they were playing against kids who have been playing for years.
“There is something called the 10-run rule and when you are losing by 10 runs, that ends the game and that happened every game,” Mr.McGarry states.
McGarry thinks that they will have a stronger team next year because there are many 6th graders that play on travel teams and have more experience. He says that they will probably have more success next year.
He thinks that everyone had fun and definitely learned a lot about the game. So every outcome of the games were fair.
“Every game was fair and they [all] tried their best,” Mr.McGarry says.
