Ms. Silvestri is a world language survey teacher at Iselin Middle School (IMS). She is a native Spanish speaker, and has been teaching it for 23 years. Today we will be interviewing her on her childhood and early life.
Press: Hi, how are you?
Mrs. Silvestri: I’m fine, thank you. And how are you doing?
Press: I’m fine, thank you. Where did you grow up?
Mrs. Silvestri: I grew up partly in Honduras, then moved to the United States. I moved here when I was 14, two weeks before my birthday.
Press: Do you prefer living in Honduras or in the United States?
Mrs. Silvestri: I like both. There are both different ways of life.
Press: What was your favorite song as a child?
Mrs. Silvestri: I used to listen to Killing me Softly by The Fugees.
Press: Were the Fugees your favorite band?
Mrs. Silvestri: No, it was not. My favorite band was the Wu Tang Clan.
Press: What were your hobbies growing up?
Mrs. Silvestri: I love writing poetry and writing in my diary, and playing sports. I also like listening to music.
Press: So, you were into sports during your childhood?
Mrs. Silvestri: Yes, I was. I like sports.
Press: What university did you attend?
Mrs. Silvestri: Rutgers University.
Press: Did you like school in general?
Mrs. Silvestri: Yes, I loved school.
Press: What was your favorite part of school?
Mrs. Silvestri: Hanging out with my friends and playing sports.
Press: What was your dream job before you became a teacher?
Mrs. Silvestri: I wanted to become a plastic surgeon, and make everyone beautiful. I also wanted to run my own coffee shop.
Press: If you could sum up your childhood in 3 words, what would they be?
Mrs. Silvestri: Intense, adventurous… I can’t think of another word.
Press: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Mrs. Silvestri: No.
