Nowadays, AI is an emerging technology that is becoming very popular. Many people around the world use it for various purposes. It can be used to make everything faster in your daily life. Some people think that it’s good, bad, or even a mix of both.
Kosha Patel, a 7th grader from IMS, says that she believes that AI is a good and bad thing. Patel says that sometimes it may be important to use it for “general” but not for school-related things.
Patel also says that to make AI not harmful, the developers can limit the amount of time you can use AI and prohibit people asking harmful questions. Since AI can rewrite its own code, Patel says that developers can prohibit rewriting its code as well.
Patel states that if AI takes over the world, human work unfortunately won’t exist anymore.Yet, she says that AI could be a big help in helping communities in poverty to get resources that they need. She also states what it would feel like to be in a world where AI does all the work.
“To be a human in a world of machines means that humans barely do anything and machines conduct false responses and take over the world,” says Patel.
Divij Agrawal, a 7th grader from IMS, says that AI is a good thing that helps with many things such as topics within school. Agrawal says that you can use it for learning topics that you don’t know or understand about.
He says to prevent AI from rewriting its code, the developers can make a type of cybersecurity or can also hire people to make sure it doesn’t rewrite its own code.
Agrawal says that communities in poverty can be helped by using AI to do all the work and create technology for those people to use.
“If AI took over the world, I’d guess I’d feel sad that it took over the world,” stated Agrawal.
Laaibah Adeel, a 7th grader from IMS, says that AI is making people “stupid” ever since people started to rely on it to do almost all their work
Adeel believes that Google should remove Gemini AI when you search up stuff since it just gives an immediate answer which students use as an advantage to do their homework quickly. Also she says that because of AI the job rate will decrease and it will create an economic imbalance.
“I would feel useless. Also, AI can’t create genuine human feelings so the world will feel very monotone,” said Adeel
Mr. DiNuzzo, a Financial Literacy teacher at IMS shared his thoughts about this topic. He says that it is a tool that can be used for good and bad. Mr. Dinuzzo says that AI can do things that humans can’t. He also said they can help in doing things such as research for cancer.
While AI can be helpful, it can be harmful in many ways. Mr. Dinuzzo says that AI can harm learning. He actually also doesn’t believe that AI will take over the world.
Mr. Dinuzzo says that we should come up with rules for AI to use it responsibly. He says that it will take the action of the government and various companies to create a type of committee. He says that he hopes that the people who are creating AI are decent.
Mr. DiNuzzo also states that we can help communities in poverty by making AI to help in farming and help people in getting jobs. He also stated that it can help in agriculture in many ways.
“There will be a change in the workforce. I don’t know what will happen but in the next 50 years it may change, I hope it’s not teaching,” stated Mr. DiNuzzo.
Mrs. Lubarsky, a STEM teacher at IMS, says that AI is bad in many ways. She says that AI can lead humans to be “useless.” In her opinion it can help in various ways such as making lesson plans better for something she can’t explain well enough to her students.
She also says that AI can have many environmental impacts and have an effect on human jobs. She also believes that AI can stop humans being creative and innovative.
Mrs. Lubarsky also stated that communities in poverty can be helped with AI by making them do things that take us a long time such as the labor work. Yet, she says that if we give AI access to the public they should have limitations.
She believes that if people start using AI too much and soon make it do all jobs, the workforce will start to be replaced by AI and humans won’t be needed anymore.
“People are going to be bored, angry that their jobs were taken away. People can get into trouble. Work is our purpose. AI taking over the world can take away the purpose of humans. Once everything is done, there will be more wars, fighting, and depression,” said Mrs. Lubarsky.
Overall, it may not be good to use AI, using it is also fine. Just remind yourself that AI is not always a good thing to use on and on. Using it for learning topics you don’t understand is completely fine. Also, remember that even the smallest actions can have a big impact on your future.
