Panther Press: Before growing up, what did you want to be?
Mrs. Domingues: I have always wanted to be a teacher. I would play school with my little sister.
Panther Press: What inspired you to become a teacher at this school?
Mrs. Domingues: I taught elementary school before coming to Iselin Middle. I wanted to teach a different grade and I had heard that Iselin Middle was a great place to teach!
Panther Press:Who supported you the most to become a teacher.
Mrs. Domingues: My parents supported me the most to achieve my goal of being a teacher.
Panther Press: When did you become a teacher?
Mrs. Domingues: I began teaching in 1999.
Panther Press:In your opinion, what is the best way for children to learn?
Mrs. Domingues: The best way for children to learn is through experiences. Having students learn from each other is priceless.
Panther Press:What challenges have you had to face in your career?
Mrs. Domingues: The greatest challenge is not having enough time in the day!
Panther Press:How do you assess student progress?
Mrs. Domingues: I assess students in different ways. For example I can assess a student’s understanding through a conversation, a written assessment, homework, etc.
Panther Press:How do you organize your classes?
Mrs. Domingues: I try to organize my classroom by placing students in groups and encouraging them to have open discussions about topics we are learning in class.
Panther Press:What is your philosophy regarding teaching?
Mrs. Domingues: As a teacher my goal is to create a learning environment that is conducive to active and engaged learning and to provide a safe space for my students to learn and be comfortable in their abilities.
