Mrs. Celano is a Guidance Counselor at Iselin Middle School (IMS). She is the 7th-grade counselor. She started in 2022 here at IMS.
She likes working because all the teachers here and the other counselors are too. Also, she gets to know us a little bit more than just inside the classroom, and she can help students achieve.
Mrs.Celano likes being able to help with most goals students have, whether that’s academic goals, or with friends, or something outside. She likes the staff and has good relationships with the teachers, other counselors, and our principal and vice principal.
“I like working here because I like all of the teachers, the other counselors, and we have a great administration. Also, our students are awesome, so I love everything about this school,” Mrs. Celano said.
She always wanted to be a guidance counselor. When she was in high school, she thought at first she wanted to be a teacher, but decided on becoming a counselor.
“It can be stressful working in a school sometimes because you want to make sure you always are doing the best that you can for students.”
Sometimes, there can be a lot of things that students need, and she wants to be there as much as she can. But it can be hard when she has almost 300 students, so the job could be stressful sometimes.
She became a counselor, and she is also an academic advisor at Middlesex County College. She helps students with registering for classes and college.
She helps them figure out what they want to do for a career.
“It’s also good having a team to be able to bounce ideas off of. If I’m not sure about something, I can talk to them, especially because they’ve had a lot more experience than me,” Celano said.
She officially started working here in 2022 and really likes the culture of the school that we have here.
“Everyone is very friendly, all of the students are really kind. They’re nice,” she said.
