Mrs. Bergondo is an ELA teacher who works at IMS who believes strongly in reading and wants her students to become better readers.
Mrs. Bergondo grew up in Rutherford, New Jersey. She enjoys reading and thinks that it’s a fun adventure every time she picks up a book.
“I love getting the opportunity to read books together with my students and discuss them together. I love my students getting excited about a book,” Bergondo said.
At first, she wanted to be a secretary or psychologist, but her friends Jenny and Chris were going to be teachers.
They started substitute teaching, and told her to join it too, for a side job for extra money.
When she was in college she joined too. After Bergondo’s first day, she loved it so much that she knew what she wanted to do.
“This was amazing,” she said.
In her free time, she watches her kids and sees what they do. She likes hanging out with her friends, going on trips in the fall with family, hosting parties, being outside, watching shows and movies, and she also likes going on walks.
She loves to get the opportunity to read books together and discuss them together. She loves when her students get excited about a book. And she likes helping them become better writers.
Bergondo has been teaching at Iselin Middle School for 23 years. But she enjoys the students and the faculty. She has made life long friends here.
“There were some years better than others depending on students and other situations.”
When kids bring her their food and offer it, she eats home made food. Like chana masala.
She wants kids to feel happy when they’re in her room. She hopes to instill a love of reading in all her students.
She thinks reading is like going on different adventures, and the best part is when you watch the movie part, the characters are who they are, “it’s like picking up a journey.”
She loves Movement Monday, because it’s the only day of the week “I’m guaranteed to exercise, because we are told to do it.”
Mrs. Bergondo loves exercising, but it’s hard to find time. “It is kinda funny because my daughter brought up adding Monday to her school, and they’re going to start doing it over there.”
Begondo attended Rutgers University. She loved the classes and that there were lots of kids to hang out with on weekends.
They showed her something to do. She liked the campuses, “they had their own charm about them.”
