Ms. Grochocki is the organizer for Discovery Day at IMS. Discovery Day usually takes place in November and April to give opportunity for people to find a new hobby.
Discovery Day is a very fun, awaited day in IMS for all students because of opportunities and fun. On this day students in IMS can pick two workshops to be a part of and there’s many varieties of them.
Ms. Grochocki is one of the main people who organize it for IMS and she hopes it helps students get new hobbies and they have fun at it.
“The only thing I’ll say is I hope all the students like Discovery Day. I know sometimes they don’t get what they want because there are so many choices, but we give it to them so there is something fun to do and make them discover some new hobbies and things they didn’t think about and see if they can find something else they enjoy,” Grochocki said.
She does hope it’s longer so people can participate in more sessions.
“The only thing I wish I could change is to do it all day,” Grochocki said. “We have that now and you can have 2 sessions all day. I wish we could do all day with more sessions.”
Discovery Day used to be four days at IMS but recently got switched to two. But later, it was resolved by making it two sessions instead of one.
She does have ideas for the upcoming Discovery Day like how she is going to give eighth graders more leniency on what they pick.
“So there’s a couple of things we’re thinking about. We’re going to do the same thing as the last one so it’s going to be half a day before spring break. Each student is going to pick 2 workshops to do. And I’m trying to maybe let the eight graders have more say in it,” Grochocki said.
