Mr. Romano is a math teacher at IMS and I am going to interview on how he makes math easier for other students.
Panther Press: Why did you become a math teacher?
Mr. Romano: I wanted to make a difference and be there for kids in need whether it’s challenge or advice.
Panther Press: Why do some students think math is hard ?
Mr. Romano: Sometimes the messages from the public are not great .
Panther Press: How do you make math fun for students?
Mr. Romano: I try to make math fun by making it real, doing fun activities and projects and making it understandable. Students will most likely like it if they understand it.
Panther Press: What math games have you used?
Mr. Romano: Well there are a lot of tech-base activities like Gimkit , Kahoot , but in class it is a basketball type of game to review for upcoming tests .
Panther Press: How do you break big math problems into small ones?
Mr. Romano: I break down the problem into smaller pieces to identify what is important and look for key words. Even if you’re not on track, see if your answer makes sense.
Panther Press: What do you do when students don’t get the math lesson?
Mr. Romano: Revisiting the topic, additionally practice trying to explain different ways like IXL, watching a video or practicing problems.
Panther Press: What trick do you use for students?
Mr. Romano: I usually do a lot of mental math and tips that I personally use .
Panther Press: What advice do you give to your students?
Mr. Romano: To try, that’s all I ask and you’re going to be more successful. Do your homework. Study.
