In 2027, New Jersey plans to start a new phone ban in schools. Many students are already upset about this rule. A lot of people believe this phone ban should not actually happen.
Rudransh Faujdar strongly believes that no one likes this ban. Faujdar says, “Students use their phones for important reasons, not just for fun. Taking phones away completely feels unfair to many students.”
One major issue with the phone ban is emergencies. If something serious happens at school, students may need their phones right away. Not having access to phones could make emergencies more dangerous.
Aarav Patel shared his opinion and said, “Phones aren’t just distractions, they’re devices for safety.” He believes students should be trusted to use phones responsibly. He thinks a full ban goes too far.
Another concern is phones being kept in lockers. Faujdar said he heard students wouldn’t even be allowed to use their phones from their lockers. He believes that would be really bad and unnecessary.
Patel also talked about contacting parents. He said, “If something happens, I should be able to reach my family as soon as I can.” Many students agree that this kind of communication is important.
Phones are also helpful after school. Students use them to check rides, schedules, and sports practices. Without phones, things could get confusing and stressful.
Faujdar believes the ban could affect students’ mental health. Being completely cut off from phones can make students anxious. He thinks schools should focus on balance instead of strict bans.
Patel added, “Rules like the phone ban should keep students safe, not make them feel restricted.” He believes phones can be limited without being taken away fully. Many students support this idea.
