Mrs. Malleck is a physical education and health teacher. She is a great teacher and she knows how to make class fun. She keeps her students motivated in the gym and her goal is to help her students build confidence, learn teamwork, and discover how fun staying active can be. We are interviewing Mrs. Malleck because we want to know how her and the other gym teachers come up with the games that we play in gym class and her opinion on them.
Press: Hello, how are you today?
Mrs. Malleck: I’m great, how are you?
Press: We’re good thank you! First question, how do you come up with the games that we play in gym class?
Mrs. Malleck: The games we play, we come up with them as a department so usually together if we have time,or a new school year starts, or prep; things that we come up with like different games. They could be games that teachers already played here before I started teaching here. We would use the internet to research new games and things like that.
Press: Are there any new games that you are thinking of playing?
Mrs. Malleck: We are trying out some new games the past couple Fridays here in 6th grade that Mr. Aquisto came up with.
Press: What is your least favorite game that we play in the gym if you have one?
Mrs. Malleck: You know I just don’t think I have one right now. I can’t think about my least favorite game.
Press: That’s perfectly fine! What is your favorite game?
Mrs. Malleck: My favorite game we play.. kickball! Yeah, Kickball Fridays are my favorite day.
Press: Yes, those are fun. Why is it fun for you?
Mrs. Malleck: Why?! Because everyone gets into it. 6th grade is the best because everybody still likes to play kickball, and everyone is getting into it and is cheering for each other.
Press: What is a game you came up with and how do you play it?
Mrs. Malleck: I feel like we all come up with the games together. There’s not one specific one that I’ve come up with on my own. There’s one we play outside that’s called tennis spaceball that I don’t think we’ve played in 6th grade yet. It’s almost like kickball but instead of kicking the ball, you use a tennis racket and a tennis ball. It’s pretty fun.
Press: Last question, how do you all agree on the games you play in gym?
Mrs. Malleck: That’s a great question. Sometimes we don’t all agree on what we are playing, usually whoever is teaching first period will get together and talk about what we are going to do for the day. A lot of the time 7th and 8th graders play the same activity and the 6th grade will be different for the day just depending on what day it is. If we try a new activity and it doesn’t go very well we’ll come up with new rules for the game and try again. Everybody puts in some feedback. Everybody figures it out pretty well and works together so we’re able to change games as we go through the day.
Press: Thank you so much for your time.
Mrs. Malleck: You’re welcome.
