Mr. Cahill is a teacher at both Iselin Middle School and John F. Kennedy Memorial High School. Cahill teaches Chinese, and World Language Survey. Cahill started teaching 10 years ago.
Mr. Cahill has stated that he speaks multiple languages, Chinese, English, and some Spanish. He has stated that he is fluent in Chinese and English.
He said that he speaks some Spanish, but it is “pretty bad.”
Mr. Cahill lived in China for 4 years, he was living there as a student. He had earned a scholarship to go to China, funding his entire time thre. He said he was really only there for the money.
“Well that was an interesting accident as well, I thought I would be a big business lord. I thought I would be a big CEO, I was going to business school, and after I went to China, I went to Ireland. I went to basically the best business school in Ireland, and they had a big gap in between semesters. Then, I saw the job for substituting a language teacher for Chinese, and at that point I already spoke Chinese. So I got this job at JFK as a substitute. I enjoyed it. “I ended up getting the job full time,” Mr. Cahill said
Mr. Cahill said that he prefers the high school students, because the middle school students are not quite ready for learning in the way that he wants to teach. That the high school students are more mature, even though Mr. Cahill said that he himself is not much of a mature person.
Mr. Cahill did not get inspired to teach by anyone, “I never had any good teachers,” Mr. Cahill’s mother and two of his aunts are teachers. The students inspired him the most.
“When I was younger I did not want to be a teacher, but a rockstar,” Mr. Cahill said.
Mr. Cahill lived in China for 4 years, and taught for 10 years. He speaks English, Chinese, and Spanish. He wanted to be a rockstar in his early years, and prefers high school because they are more ready to learn in the way he wants to teach.
