Most of us use computers every single day for school or video games, but we don’t usually think about the people who actually work with tech for a living. To find out what a tech job is really like, I decided to interview Mohamed Rafi. We talked about his daily routine, the hard parts of working with computers, and his life outside of work.
Every job has good days and bad days. When I asked him about his favorite part of working in tech, he said it feels great knowing his work helps other people out. He really likes solving tough problems and learning something new every day.
But working with computers isn’t always easy. The absolute hardest part of his job is dealing with stress and rushing to hit tight deadlines. When things randomly break down, he has to stay calm and fix them super fast. Even though it gets stressful, he picked this career because it fits his natural strengths. Interestingly, this isn’t what he wanted to do when he was growing up. When he was a kid, he actually wanted to be a school teacher.
Sitting in front of a computer screen all day can be really tiring, so taking breaks is super important. After a long day of work, he likes to relax by just hanging out and spending time with family. He also keeps a good balance by doing hobbies like reading, watching movies, and hanging out outside.
He shared that his favorite childhood memory is getting together with his whole family for big holiday meals and telling stories. He said his own parents inspired him the most in life because they worked hard and taught him about honesty and respect.
Looking back at his life, he is proudest of building a stable home and giving his kids great opportunities. To wrap up the interview, he gave great advice for the future.
He said, “Work hard, stay humble, and never stop learning. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes because they help you grow.”
