Mrs. Jaclyn Tinney is a 7th-grade English Language Arts teacher who believes that teaching is special. Her love for reading and writing began with the encouragement of her high school teachers, Mrs. Inman and Mrs. Davis, and her father, who was also a teacher. They inspired her to enjoy books and understand the power of teaching.
Every morning, Mrs. Tinney welcomes her students with a smile. She teaches both honors and regular ELA classes and loves seeing her students learn and grow. She believes that reading and writing help students understand the world and express their thoughts. One memorable moment for her was when she helped a struggling student understand a passage, and his face lit up with realization.
Mrs. Tinney has high expectations for her students and teaches them important life lessons. She often says, “If what you are doing interferes with learning or hurts someone, then you shouldn’t do it.” Her students know these values are important to her. She teaches kindness, self-awareness, and responsibility alongside reading and writing, helping her students become confident individuals.
She focuses on improving their comprehension and grammar skills, which are essential for expressing themselves. Her advice to anyone wanting to improve their English is simple: “Read, read, and read some more.” She believes reading opens new ideas and feelings, and her excitement encourages even reluctant students to enjoy it.
Even though English Language Arts hasn’t changed much, Mrs. Tinney treats each class as a chance to inspire her students. For her, teaching is about helping them develop a love for learning. She cherishes small victories, like when students understand tricky passages or finish a book they once found uninteresting.
In the hallways, students greet Mrs. Tinney with smiles, showing their appreciation for her. She’s become a well-loved teacher known for her dedication. Her classroom is a safe space for questions and celebrations of reading, and her influence will stay with her students long after they leave because she has inspired them to be their best selves.
