Plastic is a part of everyone’s daily life, but we often don’t think about how much even that one plastic bottle we use without thinking how much it can harm our environment and us. Plastic Pollution can not end on its own, instead it requires attention from everyone.
A Science teacher at Iselin Middle School, Ms. Pasqualini, thinks that, “Recycling alone is a very good step but there are more steps need to be taken because there are more plastic bags that aren’t being recycled properly that if we would make more things out of recycled stuff that might fix more problems.”
She also said that she doesn’t think that the plastic problem will ever be solved.
“Plastic is important that there are a lot of things made out of plastic and there are also a lot of things that plastic is used for. I don’t think that we will ever get rid of plastic but I do think that the more plastic we recycle, the more recycled plastic we will use. We would not have to make more new plastic,” Ms. Pasquaini said.
She believed that people do take plastic problems seriously when they see its effects, but in daily life they don’t.
“For example, when people saw the picture of sea turtles with plastic straws in their nose then everyone cared about plastic, but it’s back and forth and we can’t say anything about it,” She said.
Ms. Pasqualini thinks that banning plastic is not practical in daily life.
“Even outside of simple things like bottled waters, plates and forks even in lunch we have plastic spoons and forks so even outside of that it’s hard to get rid of plastic,” Ms. Pasqualini said.
Ms. Pasqualini also said that she believes plastic should be of limited use rather than a complete ban.
“Limited use of plastic would force us to look at those alternative substances and materials that we can use instead of plastic because there are a lot of things made with and using plastic but if we would limited it, we would have to look at other materials. Those materials might be better or worse but at least we would find out,” Ms Pasqualini said.
