Afreen Bhatti is a Freshman at JFK Memorial High School.
She and her sister Maheen Bhatti love watching movies and TV series. They especially love to see who got nominated in the Oscars.
The Oscars are when actors and film creators get awards from people who liked their acting and films.
Afreen feels like the Oscars are a very good opportunity for smaller production companies, but to be in the Oscars it takes a lot of hard work. Being at the Oscars can fulfill people’s dreams. Sometimes Bhatti feels like the Oscars take away from real big world events.
There are a lot of people online saying that the Oscars are rigged, and Bhatti also thinks that because year after year they have picked movies that don’t deserve to win. Many people online agree with this.
The best picture award went to “One Battle After Another,” let’s see what Bhatti has to say.
“‘Sinners,’ I feel like it culturally impacted other people way more than ‘One Battle After Another’ did, sure that movie was good but it was not as good as ‘Sinners.’ ‘Sinners’ gave emotion, and showed us culture and diversity and how black people struggled with racism. ‘One Battle After Another’ gave none of that. Sure it was funny and all but I’m not there for the comedy, in there for the content of the story. Sinners should have won,” Bhatti said.
We also asked her if she thought any film was overlooked. She said that ‘Frankenstein’ and ‘Begonia’ were overlooked. She told me ‘Begonia’ was such a good film and she thinks it was robbed from its nominations.
‘Frankenstein’s’ cinematography was on point, but it didn’t win best cinematography.
For the Oscars Conan O’ Brien hosted. In her opinion she thought he did a good job without overstepping in any of his jokes. She also thought how he came into the Oscars was unique and overall did a good job with his performance.
We asked her about the performances.
“Sinners because golden ( Kpop Demon Hunters) was overplayed and too popular so I knew it was going to win. “I lied to you,” was such a gorgeous part of the movie and the vocals and instruments were way better,” Bhatti said.
The Oscars inspire people to work hard towards their dreams.
