We interviewed Mr. Joyce because we both like history a lot and he teaches in a way where everyone can understand what he is actually teaching.
Lia: Why did you want to be a History teacher?
Joyce: History, I love the concept and I love learning about the past and how things kind of almost sort of repeat itself. You know, it’s important to learn about the past so that way we can be better in the future.
Penny: Did you have another job before you were a history teacher? And if so, did you like that job more, less, or the same as being a teacher?
Joyce: I do sales on the side like a self travel so if someone wants to book a cruise I can set that up for them. It’s kind of like my side gig. I like my current job better. This is my main job that has more passion for it and you know it’s more important.
Penny: What are some memorable moments in teaching?
Joyce: Creating projects for my students and also playing games. We did this game where the kids had to go on the Oregon Trail and we basically gave them choices and they would pick and get points.
Lia: Did you want to become a teacher your whole life?
Joyce: At first when I was in college I wanted to work in government. Eventually I changed to becoming a teacher and went through the whole system when I was 21 years old.
Penny: Do you like being a teacher?
Joyce: Yeah I like being with the kids and spreading positivity to people and it’s very important to build that trust and show them how to be positive and teach them about the past.
Lia: What inspired you to be a teacher?
Joyce: I had great teachers when I was in school and a history teacher had so much knowledge and he could tell these great stories and when I went to his class I would just go in and it was like just hearing these stories I mean I was fascinated I was looking forward to going to that class because it was just like a new lesson and story every single day.
