Mr. Drucquer is a teacher at IMS, He teaches Health class and Physical Education. He served for the Marine Corps and then became a teacher.
“I joined the military because I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do when I was a senior in high school so that’s how I joined the Marines,” Mr. Drucquer said.
“I signed my contract on my 18th birthday, May 11, 2016. Then I went to bootcamp on Paris Island on January 30, 2017,” Mr. Drucquer said.
Mr. Drucquer said he joined the Marine Corp because “it is widely regarded as the hardest branch and the smallest. There are about 2000 people in the Marine Corp and about 2 million in the military so I wanted to challenge myself mentally and physically.” So he served from 2017 to 2021.
“At bootcamp I had to wake up at 4 in the morning but later in my career I definitely got to sleep more. But usually I was up around 4am to 7am,” Mr. Drucquer stated.
Mr. Drucquer usually had lunch about 11am to 1pm. He described them as very long lunch breaks.
“I was a combat engineer so I went to what’s called a demolition training so I got to blow a lot of things up. Then I did what’s called underwater egresh training so I had to escape from a helicopter underwater,” Mr. Drucquer said.
An ability that Mr. Drucquer learned in the military is discipline. “Discipline is the ability to do something you don’t want to do. I make sure I go to the gym,” Mr. Drucquer said.
Mr. Drucquer said, “In bootcamp I didn’t have free time. But at home I usually go to the gym and play video games. I was still 18, 20 ,21 so I played video games with my friends. It was a good way to connect with friends from far away and traveled to 12 countries while I served.”
Mr. Drucquer said he did what’s called a night shoot. You use a laser and NVG-Night-Vision Goggles. It’s green so nobody else would see it, but if you had the NVG you could.
Mr. Drucquer said, “In bootcamp you have the barracks. Sometimes we had to sleep on the ground and in ships we had bunk beds but they were really tight.”
