Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests/trees. This destroys the environment of the animals that live in the forest. This forces the animals to move out of their homes. Deforestation happens all around the world.
Deforestation causes climate change. Deforestation releases carbon dioxide into the air, as trees absorb the carbon dioxide. When we cut down the trees, the carbon dioxide is released back into the atmosphere
Farming is one of the main causes of Deforestation. Deforestation is also driven by commercial logging, such as paper, pulp, expanding cities, mining, and furniture. In some areas cutting down trees creates fuel too. In the U.S. alone, deforestation emits 800 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
There are many impacts of deforestation including reduced biodiversity, increased greenhouse gas emissions, disruption of water cycle, increased soil erosion, disrupted livelihoods, and more. This negatively impacts our world, very heavily. Based on previous knowledge, deforestation has been happening for thousands of years.
“Well I think it’s a huge problem in the world. Whether it is accidental deforestation, with wildfires, or purposely cutting down the trees. It is impacting not only local ecosystems, but the entire world,” Cruz said
Cruz is cautious with what she does. Like if she is camping, hiking, etc, she will make sure that she doesn’t leave anything out that may cause a problem or start a fire.
“There are a lot of ways to help control deforestation. Especially if people are camping, making sure not to leave an open fire. That is the main one for our age, and demographic. Ensure there are no open fires near trees or brushes, anything along those lines,” Cruz said.
