At JFK High School this fall, the baseball team has been working hard after school to improve their skills through daily practice and teamwork.
The team practiced four days a week after school Monday through Thursday giving players time to build their skills and work together as a team.
During practices, the team mainly focused on batting and fielding drills.
“We work on batting and fielding drills,” Mr. McGarry said.
Each practice lasted about an hour and 15 minutes, which gives the players enough time to train without interfering with homework or other activities.
“Practices don’t last that long, so they have time to do their homework,” Mr. McGarry said.
Batting practice is one of the most important parts of their training.
“Batting practice helps the team the most,” Mr. McGarry said.
To keep the players motivated, Mr. McGarry makes sure practices are fun.
”We do things that they enjoy doing,”Mr. McGarry said.
The team’s goal for this season was simple but meaningful.
“Our goal was to win one game,”Mr. McGarry said.
While the players are improving, pitching has been one of the hardest challenges.
“Pitching is kind of hard for them,” Mr. Mc Garry said.
Mr. McGarry said the players continue to improve through practice and teamwork.
“We do batting, different drills, and things they enjoy doing,” Mr. McGarry said.
What makes the team unique is their motivation to try something new.
“Them learning a new game they have never played before is something unique in the team,” Mr. McGarry said.
