Mr. McGarry is a middle school teacher at IMS and he is also a volleyball coach.
McGarry has not played volleyball in high school or in anything.
“No never played volleyball and never played in high school or anything,” he said.
McGarry became a volleyball coach here at IMS because the recent coach for the volleyball team had stepped down.
What McGarry looks for in a volleyball player is being able to “Bump, Set, Serve.” He says if you are good at all of that and are able to communicate with your teammates properly you already are a player that he is looking for.
McGarry has been coaching for the past four to five years after the previous head coach stepped down. He has been winning games with his team ever since.
McGarry thinks he is a decent volleyball coach and his team respects him. But he also says there are a lot more coaches who are better than him who have better experience since he never played on a volleyball team before.
McGarry thinks the biggest struggle in coaching a volleyball team is definitely making sure everyone stays on board and on the same page. This also includes making sure who knows how to carry out a bump, set and serve.
