Mrs. Evans is a gym and health teacher at Iselin Middle School and she has been teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for the past 4 years.
Evans graduated from Kean University with a degree of Business Administration and Health with Physical Education.
“I graduated from university with a degree of Business Administration then I switched over to a Physical Education teacher,” she said.
One of Evans’ main goals for students is to encourage them to try different sports and activities.
“My rules as a health teacher are, be respectful, actively listen to others, participate in activities, stay on topic, complete work on time, and arrive to class on time,” she said. The thing that keeps her motivated is seeing kids have fun outside and to play sports that they haven’t tried.
“Seeing students happy and having fun helps keep me motivated as a teacher,” she said.
Evans favorite sport right now is bowling, although basketball was her favorite sport when she was younger. If she could choose another topic to study, or be a teacher to a different subject she would choose history or math.
Overall, teaching gym and health allows students to stay active, learn teamwork, and develop healthy habits.
