Patrick McGann is a football coach at JFK. Their team went 6-4 and missed the playoffs by one game. They are making a lot of changes since a lot of the seniors are leaving.
“My thoughts about this season were very high,” McGann said. “I thought we were going to win a lot of games and make it into the playoffs. One of the reasons I think we didn’t do that well was because we weren’t in the weight room that much and we needed the kids to be stronger.”
JFK recently lost their head coach and Mr. McGann was asked if he would be interested in the position.
“I would have to talk it over with my family because it takes a lot of time and responsibility,” McGann said.
He wants to but doesn’t know if he should because he still has to take care of his family and being a head coach could take time away from that.
McGann feels this season will be harder because they are losing a bunch of their seniors including running back, wide receiver, and most of the offensive line. This year they are going to have to replace them with sophomores and incoming seniors this year.
“One of the things I like about teaching [at IMS] is there are football kids I can recruit,” McGann said.
Also this year he is going to recruit our school kids to play football for JFK. He wants to get more kids stronger by getting them in the weight room this season so they can be stronger and win more games.
Since the seniors are leaving, McGann feels like all the positions need upgrading. He also needs more sophomores to step up to take their place and hopefully bring them to the playoffs. Most of his main focus is to see who will step up and help them win.
McGann thinks these kids from the different schools could help JFK football team a lot.
“They could make a big difference,” he said.
While it’s going to be hard to get the team back to how it used to be, they are going to try their hardest to make it to the playoffs.
This year McGann is going to focus on the weight room. Also he is going to focus on going to the playoffs and hopefully winning a championship. While they don’t have a head coach as of now, once they find one they will be able to get ready for the season.
