Being a high school athlete is not always easy. Throughout the school year, athletes balance classes, homework, practices, and games at their schools. They work hard every day to improve their skills and help their teams succeed.
Before games, many athletes listen to music, stretch, and get ready to compete. Teams usually have a talk before the game where coaches give advice and players cheer each other on.
At practice, athletes warm up, do drills, and work on getting better. They spend a lot of time training and preparing for games.
“Practice can be hard, but it helps us improve and be ready for competition,” said Mujtaba Khan. Mujtaba is a Sophomore at JFK who does many sports like Cross Country and Track.
One challenge of high school sports is playing against stronger and faster athletes. Players have to stay focused and try their best, even when games are close.
High school athletes say that middle school students should work hard, listen to their coaches, and never quit. Their goals are to improve, help their team, and do well in school.
